Choose Teeth Whitening for a Stunning, Sparkling Smile

Food, drink, and other lifestyle factors can cause teeth to stain. Dr. Melina Cozby offers both in-office and take-home teeth whitening treatments, including Zoom!®, LUMIBrite®, and the GLO™ Brilliant whitening device, at their Rockwall, TX, dental practice. In-office care provides immediate results, making it a good option if you have an upcoming event. Take-home care allows you to whiten your teeth whenever and wherever it is convenient for you. These solutions are safe and protect your dental enamel to prevent sensitivity. At Rockwall Family Dentistry, we provide the most effective treatment possible so you can enjoy an attractive smile and long-lasting results.

In-office teeth whitening provides immediate results

Can Teeth Whitening Help Me?

There are two types of dental stains: extrinsic and intrinsic. The most common, extrinsic stains are found on the outside of your teeth. They typically develop because of certain foods and beverages. When you routinely consume red wine, coffee, tomato sauce, tea, and other dark-colored substances, the heavily pigmented molecules will cling to your teeth. As they build up, your smile will gradually develop a yellowish or brownish tint. Teeth whitening is highly effective in removing this type of discoloration.

At Rockwall Family Dentistry, we provide Zoom!® in-office whitening, which can brighten your smile by up to eight shades in just one office visit.

Intrinsic stains are located on the inner structure of the tooth. They most often appear due to dental infection, metal fillings, and certain medications. Standard whitening products cannot penetrate these deeper layers of your teeth, and are not effective on intrinsic stains. If this is the case, we offer several other cosmetic options, such as porcelain veneers or dental bonding, which can conceal this type of discoloration.

In-office Whitening Treatment

At Rockwall Family Dentistry, we provide Zoom! in-office whitening, which can brighten your smile by up to eight shades in just one office visit. When you choose this method, we will apply peroxide-based bleaching gel to the surface of your teeth.

We then apply a light on the teeth and material, causing oxygen molecules to penetrate your enamel, chemically breaking the stained molecules apart. Typically, we will remove the first layer of gel and apply two more applications.

The treatment process takes about one hour. Since your teeth can become re-stained over time, whitening results are not permanent. However, you can undergo touch-ups to keep your smile looking its best. We also provide take-home trays so you can perform regular touch ups at home.

Whiten Your Smile at Home

We offer two types of at-home whitening: LUMIBrite and the GLO Brilliant whitening device, which uses patented technology to accelerate the bleaching process. If you decide on LUMIBrite take-home whitening, we will take impressions of your teeth to create precisely fitting trays. The GLO Brilliant system consists of a soft, comfortable mouthpiece.

You will fill these custom-made bleaching trays or mouthguard with whitening gel and wear them at home. Similar to the gel we use in the office, these products work the same but feature lower concentrations of peroxide. This allows you to enjoy safe and comfortable treatment, without continual supervision from your dentist. To further protect your teeth, we will choose a specific gel formula, based on your oral health and level of dental sensitivity.

For optimal results, you should wear the trays or mouthpiece about 30 minutes a day, typically for 10 days to two weeks. Most patients can easily fit teeth whitening into their busy schedule, and take-home care can achieve the same dramatic results as treatment in our office. Similar to in-office treatment, you can perform regular touch ups to maintain your results.
