Transform Your Smile with Porcelain Veneers or Minimal-prep LUMINEERS®
If you want to quickly and easily correct blemishes in your smile, you may benefit from porcelain veneers at our Rockwall, TX, practice. These custom-made, ultra-thin shells will cover the front of your teeth, concealing minor stains, cracks, chips, and even slight misalignment. Dr. Melina Cozby has years of experience and a keen eye for detail, allowing them to create and place veneers that are as lifelike as your original dental enamel. Alternatively, we may recommend LUMINEERS®. As thin as contact lenses, these veneers do not usually require alteration of your teeth and can achieve the same dramatic and realistic effects.
Are You a Candidate for Veneers?
Traditional veneers and LUMINEERS® are a proven way to enhance the look of your smile. They can reshape your teeth and conceal the following cosmetic concerns:
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Gaps between teeth
- Slight misalignment
- Unusually small teeth
- Unusually shaped teeth
- Worn edges
- Discoloration, especially internal stains, which will not respond to teeth whitening
Dr. Cozby will first evaluate your oral health to make sure you do not need a more extensive treatment, such as traditional orthodontics. If she determines that you are a candidate, she will help you choose the right type of veneers. No-prep LUMINEERS® are an exciting option, but they are not right for everyone. For example, if you have an imbalanced bite, the uneven pressure could damage the more delicate LUMINEERS®.
Placing Porcelain Veneers
It usually takes just two appointments to place traditional porcelain veneers. At the first visit, we will reshape the front of your teeth. The area will be numb during the reshaping, and she will use conservative techniques. Since she will remove a very thin layer of enamel – about the thickness of an eggshell – the process will involve negligible discomfort.
Our technicians will carefully select the shade of porcelain that matches your smile, and that will have a natural sparkle, similar to the sheen of dental enamel.
Next, impressions will be taken of your teeth, and our partner lab will craft your veneers. The technicians will carefully select the shade of porcelain that matches your smile. The slightly translucent material will also have a natural sparkle, similar to the sheen of dental enamel. In most cases, it will take two weeks for the lab to create your veneers.
To prevent dental sensitivity, we will provide temporary veneers while you wait for your veneers to be crafted. Once your veneers are complete, you will come in for your second appointment. Dr. Cozby will lightly etch the front of your teeth, guaranteeing a strong bond with the porcelain. She will then attach the veneers with composite and use a curing light to harden the material to ensure long-lasting results.
LUIMINEERS® placement also takes two office visits. However, at the first appointment, we will not typically need to reshape your teeth. If she does remove any enamel, the amount will be negligible. Rather, Dr. Cozby will simply take impressions of your teeth. Then we will carefully design your veneers to achieve attractive, realistic results. Once the lab is finished, we will microetch your enamel and attach the porcelain. Since no alteration of your teeth is involved, LUMINEERS® pose almost no risk of discomfort or dental sensitivity.
